Vermeulen's Jachtwerf was founded 60 years ago and started as a small yard, called 'Ten Anker'. Due to the enlargement of the locks in the mid sixties, the yard had to move southwards to its present location.

Around 1960 the yard started to build sailing yachts to own design: Scheldeshouw, Veron, Veronique, Commeraal and Grandtour. Of the Scheldeschouw, a traditional looking ship, a wide variety of types were available. About 100 yachts were build, till the yard ceased production in 1978. From that moment on, the yard turned fully to maintenance, repair and storage of yachts. In 2000 some Scheldeschouw owners founded an association called "Vriendenkring van Scheldeschouwen", go to for more information, in Dutch only.
